For decades, Waverly Graham, an American entrepreneur and his wife, Ann, a gifted designer, traveled the world, studying the decorative arts traditions of every culture and period in search of the appropriate pieces to furnish their own home. They found that the graceful lines and rich texture of 18th century Venetian painted furniture held a special charm. The marvelous designs and decoration and the rich patina on the antiques they found in European antique galleries satisfied their aesthetic desires but the pieces were inevitably too fragile for vibrant household use. Not to be deterred in their quest, the Grahams went to remote hamlets of northern Italy where they found a handful of artists and craftsmen who preserved the skills of their fathers. Ann then assembled the best of the designs her research had uncovered and worked with these artists to realize her ideas using the methods and materials of the past. In 1985, after long months of collaboration, the first Patina collection was produced…a collection that might have graced the palace of the Doge at the zenith of Venetian culture.
