Cordiali Saluti,
Patina Partners With Rubelli
Patina to offer beautiful new Rubelli fabrics on select
upholstered pieces in its lines
Founded in 1858 by Lorenzo Rubelli and recognized as the premier textile manufacturer in Italy, Rubelli Fabrics is in many respects unique, much like Patina, given its capacity to produce hand-made fabrics using traditional techniques as well as highly sophisticated textiles of all kinds.

The selection of fabrics particularly compliments the upholstered pieces in our new Pompeii Collection but will go equally well with any of our seats or benches.

We will not be selling the fabric by the yard; we are only offering the amazing Rubelli fabrics with finished Patina pieces that will be hand upholstered by our skilled craftsmen in Italy.

Patina in the Powder Room
San Marco commode adapts...
While creating a new bathroom suite for the Kohler Design Center, distinguished interior designer Bunny Williams utilized natural elements such as limestone, marble, wood and textiles to create a relaxing personal space.
To help make the room a more comfortable space, rather than just another functional bathroom, Williams chose a Patina San Marco Cabinet and added a Montego marble top to accommodate a Tea Green Kohler under counter lavatory.

The combination of Patina’s old world esthetic and the modern convenience of the Kohler products are particularly striking. Together they help Bunny Williams achieve her primary objective: to create relaxed, intimate spaces that are so inviting, her clients never want to leave them.

The San Marco cabinet is available as both a cabinet (2 doors) and a chest of drawers, in 2 different sizes 40”W x 21”D x 34”H and 36”W x 18.5”D x 30”H.

Part 1:
Overview of 18th Century Venetian Furniture
In the beginning of the eighteenth century, Italy was primarily a loose federation of many small states, politically unstable and vulnerable. The only fully independent states of any importance were the Republic of Venice and the Papacy in Rome.

Venetian society prospered in spite of the surrounding turmoil because of the more than 450 families of nobility in residence, half of which were extremely wealthy.

The Venetians, who had a love of festivals and elegance, abandoned the early influences of Spanish design and embraced the less formal Parisian approach. However, the tone of Venetian society and of Venetian decoration was livelier and even less formal than the French.

Small apartments with intimate salons were all the rage and this permitted the cre
ation of charming interiors decorated with painted ceilings, painted paneling and, of course painted furniture.

The first craftsman imitated the widely admired oriental lacquers. This style became so popular that lacquer was soon applied to nearly every kind of household object from folding screens and armoires to tiny boxes for pills and cosmetics.

These pieces became popular outside of Venice, especially in Genoa and Turin. Throughout the eighteenth century Venice reigned as the undisputed Italian center of craftsmanship in hand painted furniture and design elegance.

Next month we’ll look at the actual processes used by eighteenth century craftsmen to create these incredible pieces of furniture art.
