A Second Look ...

Veranda Magazine / Red Cross Designers’ Show House - Palm Beach

Last month we took a look at the great work done by designer Lisa Erdmann as she took on the the daunting task of designing a master bedroom suite for Veranda Magazine & The American Red Cross Greater Palm Beach Area Chapter Designers’ Show House.

The Palm Beach Show House was housed at the historical landmark Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens. The Gardens comprise the former residence of sculptor Ann Weaver Norton (1905 -1982). What we didn't tell you was the shape the house was in when the designers began their work. Having been virtually abandoned for 30 years the former main house was a complete wreck. The interiors had to be completely gutted before the designers began their labor of love, restoring it room by room to its original splendor.

Lisa wasn't the only designer using Patina in their designs. She was joined by Nana Winters whose distinctive style incorporates a mix of antiques and bold colors. "Veranda magazine had chosen the theme for the showcase. We were all working from the same concept... 'From the Sea'. I chose to use Patina's Bernini Bed with a custom designed shell motif."

Working with just an eight week turn around, Patina artists in Italy had their work cut out for them but they came through. "I can honestly say that the bed made the room," says Nana,"Without it the room would not have been the same."

This was only the second time that Nana has worked with Patina on a custom piece but she says she would not hesitate to do so again. "I absolutely enjoyed working with everyone at Patina from President Marylu Stevens, who I talked with in the very beginning of the project, to Imre Vanyi, who delivered and installed the finished piece."

Nana's guest bedroom design for the Veranda Magazine / Red Cross Designer Show House was very well received and Patina was a big part of the look. "I've been told that the room captures the style and the elegance of the Ann Norton era and really I think that was the point, to bring that house back, as much as possible, to its original state."

Lights, Camera… Action!

Patina Finds Its Voice.

As Patina moves forward with its very first DVD for designers, we are very pleased to announce that we have hired one of Italy's most heard and recognized voices, Giovanni Noto to be the voice of Patina on the DVD.

Giovanni is an extremely versatile Italian voice talent and actor whose voice is regularly heard on Italian TV and radio for major brands like Martini, Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Alitalia and Lavazza. He can also be heard in Italian film trailers, corporate videos, audio books, cartoons and video games.

We're all very excited about working with Giovanni on this project and can't wait to get the finished product out to our designers.

The DVD will include sections detailing both the history of the company and painted furniture in general and a behind the scenes look at Patina’s workshops in Italy. Also, the viewer will be walked through a detailed breakdown of the Patina model number, that somewhat bewildering string of letters and numbers associated with every Patina piece.

Last, but not least, the DVD will take the designer through the complete process of working with Patina to create unique custom pieces. From sketches, to strike-offs, to delivery and installation, the entire process is broken down in easy to follow steps for the designer wishing to create a very special piece.

To pre-order your copy of the Patina Design DVD contact Patina Inc. or your local Patina representative.

A Patina Classic!

THE BERNINI BED (affectionately known as “The Parrot” bed)

An 18th C Venetian baby cradle was the inspiration for the wonderfully whimsical Bernini Bed. The ornately shaped headboard and footboard are very typical of the period and region.

The decoration painted on this bed is usually floral but can be done in highly imaginative ways such as was specified by Nana Winters for her Veranda / Red Cross Designers' Show House.

The Patina Bernini Bed exemplifies the tone of of 18th C Venetian society and decoration which was livelier and less formal than that of Versailles. The twisted posts repeat the same rounded shape of the headboard and footboard.

Choice of whimsical finials: cherub, flower basket, parrot or onion…all carved out of lime wood.
