Hand Painted Italian Furniture
We can truly say that Patina furniture is Italian hand painted furniture because each piece is hand constructed and hand painted in Italy by traditional craftsmen and artists. Even more significantly, however, our furniture is designed to evoke the furniture style of 18th Century Italy.
When Waverly and Ann Graham started the company almost 25 years ago, they went in search of Italian artists who knew the old ways so that they could create true reproductions of the golden era of hand painted furniture, 18th Century Venice.
They painstakingly researched the traditional construction, the methods and the materials used to create these works of art. Their search led them to the region of Italy that long ago spawned the Venetian masterworks. The vintage pieces that survived were beyond reach, guarded by satin ropes and the strict stewards of Venetian heritage. However, the soul of these creations they found in the local people.
In the remote hamlets of the Northern provinces, they found a handful of artists and craftsmen who preserved the skills of their fathers and hewed to a standard all but lost. With care they fanned these embers.
Ann assembled the best of the designs her research and imagination had uncovered, added her own originality, and inspired the Italians to realize these ideas using the methods and materials of the past. Long collaboration produced a collection that might have graced the palace of the Doge at the zenith of Venetian culture.
This is the heritage of Patina and the reason we can truly call our furniture Italian.
